I love being a doula. Watching women find strength they didn't know they possessed. Witnessing couples become parents. The awe on a mothers face as she touches her baby for the first time. The first breath. The first cry. The absorbtion of a mother examining her new baby's tiny fingers. The first time a baby opens his eyes. The look of shock and admiration as a man becomes a father. The excitment. The joy. The wonder. Even the exhaustion. It is an honor and a priviledge to trusted to be part of a woman and a families most intimate of experiences.
My name is Anna Russell and I am a Sydney doula and childbirth educator. I completed my doula study in 2004 and have been supporting women in all types of births ever since.
My standard doula package offers loads of flexibility to meet your needs before, during and after your baby's birth. If you require support for a caesarean, would like to organise private education or need a little more support after baby is born, please contact me to discuss your needs.
Doula Package
- An obligation free consultation
- A minimum of 2 additional prenatal visits of 2 hours each to cover any areas of interest of concern. This may include relaxation, education, coping techniques, birth planning or working through anxieties.
- 24x7 oncall from 38 weeks of pregnancy until your baby is born.
- Birth attendance and support for as long as you need me. I will not leave you until your baby is born, fed and you are tucked up comfortably and happy for me to leave.
- A minimum of 1 postnatal visit of 2 hours to help you establish feeding (breast or bottle) and to answer any new baby questions you may have.
- The option to attend Birth Essentials Workshops for half price (normally $80 per workshop).
- Unlimited phone and email support throughout pregnancy and during your postnatal period.
- The services of an experienced backup doula (Emma Peric of Birth Instinct)
- An extensive library of books, CD's and DVDs for you to borrow
Nothing is set in stone though, your birth is all about you and will be tailored for your needs
Support Experience
I will support you in home, hospital or birth centre births. I will support you in plans for a natural birth, waterbirth, medicated birth or caesarean.
I have supported the birth of multiples, breech babies, vaginal birth after one or more caesarians (VBAC). I have supported births where mother or baby have a chronic health condition. I have supported couples where English is a second language or there has been an obsticle in communication and I have been a sole support person in several births (vaginal births and caesarean births).
